Volunteer with us

To safeguard the people we help and our volunteers, we carry out the same checks for volunteers that we carry out when we recruit new staff, including a DBS (Disclosure Barring Service) check and full training.  If you would like to volunteer for us, please register your interest by emailing your contact details together with the role you would be interested in to volunteer@ltcharity.org.uk

The Licensed Trade Charity was established in 1793 by people who wanted to provide support and a safety net for people from the licensed trade who find themselves in difficulty.

Our volunteers play a crucial role in the charity and what we can achieve. Whether you are looking to give something back to the community, learn new skills or meet new people, we offer two types of flexible volunteering opportunities.  Our national volunteering programmes are made up of people, both working and retired, who enjoy using their skills and experience to help others.

Commitment is down to the volunteer – and ranges from half an hour a fortnight on the phone to two or three days a month, out and about visiting people in their homes or representing us at various events and exhibitions.

For people looking to build their skills, the programme’s offer the chance to do this.  The charity provide regular training and feedback.  We have even had people move on to new jobs as a result of their work with us.

No experience is necessary, just the willingness to listen and help.

There are many ways to get involved with the Licensed Trade Charity

Charity Services Volunteer

As a Charity Services Volunteer you are the face of the charity. You will meet the people we currently help and those applying for help. You will offer a friendly ear whilst assessing their personal circumstances to see how the charity can help. As a Charity Services Volunteer, you will be allocated to a designated area of the country around where you live so a car is essential. Each appointment takes approximately 2 hours. The number of appointments vary each month but would be no more than 4 or 5.  Appointments usually take place in the home of the people we help within an agreed distance from your location.

Charity Ambassador

Charity Ambassadors are a vital part of our work, representing and promoting the Licensed Trade Charity to the trade.  This is a great opportunity for anyone who likes meeting and inspiring new people.  You’ll be attending a variety of events on our behalf including exhibitions and trade shows to let people know all about the Charity and the services we provide.

Volunteer Telephone Befriender

As a Volunteer Telephone Befriender you will help reduce social isolation and the feeling of loneliness by making regular phone calls. If you are a friendly and sociable person with half an hour a week you can commit to regularly, this could be the perfect role for you.

Next steps

If you would like to become one of our volunteers, fill in the online application for the role you are interested in by clicking on the links below. We’ve tried to keep it as short as possible. It shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes to complete. As you will be working with vulnerable adults, we also need to make additional checks to ensure your and their safety so we’ll need to know if you have a criminal record.
