Working in hospitality is rewarding, but it’s rarely easy. Long shifts, unpredictable hours and constant pressure have become the norm for many in pubs, bars and breweries.
So we asked a simple question: how are people really doing when it comes to wellbeing in hospitality?
The latest research shows that 72% of people working in the sector have faced personal challenges in the last year. Mental health and financial stress came up most often. One in four say they regularly feel overwhelmed at work. And nearly half of all sick days can be linked to poor mental wellbeing.
This isn’t just a people problem. It’s a business one too. When wellbeing suffers, so does everything else. Productivity, team morale and customer experience all take a hit.
But there is something we can do about it.
Taking stock of what’s really going on
Many employers are already making changes. Some are offering more flexible working, others are improving access to support or training for managers. Even small steps can make a big difference, but the first move is understanding what’s happening in your own business.
