There are lots of reasons why you might find yourself with nowhere to live:

  • your home went with your job and you’ve had to move out
  • you’ve split up with your partner and have had to move out
  • you have left rented accommodation and have nowhere to go
  • if you’ve lost your home through mortgage arrears and have nowhere to go

If you are homeless, or threatened with homelessness within 28 days, you may be able to get help from your local housing authority. It depends on your personal situation and why you have nowhere to live.

The following help sheet takes you through the steps to find out if you are classed as being in priority need, and if you fall into a category that gives you a local connection with a housing authority’s district.

It also provides a range of other useful links where you can get help if you are homeless or worried about homelessness.
